Kaara Kolukattai


Type - South Indian
Preparation Time - 20 mins
Cooking Time - 15 Mins
Serves - 15 - 20 Pieces
Served with - Sambar Coconut Chutney / Tomato Chutney / Dhall Chutney / Brinjal Chutney

Ingredients:
Idly Rice (Idli Arusi) – 1.5 cup
Water – 2 cups
Coconut (Grated) – 1/2 cup
Salt - As required
Mustard Seeds (Kaduku) – 1 spoon
Split Urad dal (Ulundu Paruppu) – 1 tblspn
Onion - 2
Green Chilli – 4
Curry Leaves – 10 leaves
Oil – 2 spoons

Method:
First, Before a day, In a bowl, Add Idly rice with water and soak for fort night.
Next day, Move the idly rice to blender with water.
Grind well as batter and keep aside.
In a pan, Add Oil, Mustard, Urad Dal, Onion, Green Chilli, Curry leaves, Salt and Fry it.
Now, Add the rice batter gradually and mix well.
Keep in low flame and mix well and keep stirring until it gets as thick batter.
Keep cooking until the flour gets cooked nicely and becomes non sticky.
Let it Cool and knead it.
Now, Add the coconut gradually and mix well.
Take your hands with a drop of oil and take a small portion of flour and form like a small oval shape as shown in picture.
In a idli pan steam cook for 10 to 15 mins.
Served with - Sambar Coconut Chutney / Tomato Chutney / Dhall Chutney / Brinjal Chutney
