Dry Fish Gravy / Karuvattu Kulambu


Ingredients:
Dried Fish (Karuvadu) – 100 Gms / 20 - 25 small Pieces
Mustard Seeds (Kaduku) – 1 Spoon
Cumin Seeds (Jeerakam) – 1 Spoon
Urad dal (Ulundu Paruppu) – 1 Spoon
Fenugreek Seeds (Vendayam) – 1/2 Spoon
Curry leaves - 10 leaves
Garlic Paste - 2 Spoon
Onion – 2
Red Chilli – 2
Tomatoes – 2
Brinjal – 2
Chilli Powder – 1.5 Spoon
Coriander Powder (Malli Podi) – 1 Spoon
Turmeric Powder (Manjal Podi) – 1 Spoon
Garam Masala Powder – 1 Spoon
Salt - As Required
Tamarind Pulp – 4 Spoon
Coconut – 1/2 cup
Oil – As required
Water as needed

Method:
In a Pan, Add Mustard seeds, Cumin Seeds, Fenugreek seeds, Roast and keep aside.

Then Add Oil, Red Chilli, Small Onion, Coconut, Tomato, Garlic Paste and stir.

Move a blender and grind as puree.


Clean the dry dish in hot water over and soak for 15 mins. Drain and set aside.


In a Pan, Add the Oil, Curry leaves, Onions, Brinjal and Dry fish and stir well.




Add the Turmeric powder, Red Chilli powder, Salt, Garam Masala Powder and stir well.


Add the tamrind pulp and tomato puree.


Add in water and bring everything to a boil, cook untill brinjal is half done.
Taste to see if you need salt and adjust it.


Turn off the heat and add in curry leaves.




Serve with rice.
